"EFFICIENT AND INNOVATIVE SYSTEM FOR WORKING ON FERROMAGNETIC SURFACES WITH THE USE OF WATER UNDER PRESSURE"

Project co-financed from European Funds under the Smart Growth Operational Program for 2014-2020, Measure 1.1 R&D projects of enterprises, Sub-measure 1.1.1 Industrial research and development works carried out by enterprises.

AIM OF THE PROJECT:
development of an effective and innovative system for carrying out works on ferromagnetic surfaces using pressurized water. Depending on the value of the water pressure in the cleaning head, it can perform work ranging from cleaning the surface to stripping off layers of varnish. The device will be designed to perform work on ships in open waters, in ports and shipyards, as well as on the walls of metal tanks. The main task of the system will be cleaning the surface of lichens and shells, as well as anti-corrosion maintenance of vessels. The design of the device will allow it to work, for example, on the hulls of tankers and petrochemical tanks. The device will be able to move and work on the ship’s side underwater. It will be equipped with a system for extracting impurities appearing in the cleaning process, a localization and precise positioning system as well as a system for recording and documenting the work carried out in the Industry 4.0 standard.
DESCRIPTION:
A system for carrying out works on ferromagnetic surfaces using pressurized water. Depending on the value of the water pressure in the cleaning head, the robot can perform work aimed at both cleaning the surface and removing layers of varnish. The device is intended for work on ships in open waters, in ports and shipyards, as well as on the walls of metal tanks. The main task of the system will be to clean the surface of lichens and shells as well as anti-corrosion maintenance of vessels. The design of the device will allow it to work, for example, on the hulls of tankers and petrochemical tanks. The device can move and work on the surface of the ship’s side that is under water (due to the force of attraction). It is equipped with a system for extracting impurities appearing in the cleaning process, a localization and precise positioning system (using IMU sensors), a system for recording and documenting the work carried out (work in the Industry 4.0 standard). The target group of recipients are companies that carry out specialist maintenance work on vessels, shipyards and ship repair facilities. The robot is controlled using an algorithm to stabilize the movement of the magnetic vehicle on the plane based on the collected and analysed data from measurement sensors, programming of robot movements, inertial navigation, location and positioning under water.

The project was completed in November 2022. A patent application has been filed with the EPO under the title: “Underwater magnetic robot for cleaning ship hulls with adjustable pulling force” under the number EP22209766.9.

After completing the research and achieving the goals planned in the project, SR Robotics plans to implement the project results in its business activities, first on the Polish market, and then abroad (EU market).
